Stallions

At Norman Court Stud, standing stallions is more than a service — it’s a deeply respectful process grounded in care, attention, and experience. Whether it’s the proven strength and stamina of Sixties Icon or the electric speed of Rumble Inthejungle, each stallion is treated with individualised care to ensure they remain healthy, comfortable, and ready to cover at their best. Every nomination is managed with both professionalism and kindness.

Before any covering, our dedicated team — including stud manager Keith Evans and resident vet Luke Hepburn — works closely to ensure the selected mare is in season, relaxed, and physically ready. The breeding process is carefully planned and carried out with as little stress as possible for both mare and stallion, with everyone involved focused on safety and welfare. It’s never rushed, never routine — each match is made with intention and integrity.

Every step of the process takes place in a calm, clean environment. Our paddocks and pastures are carefully maintained all year round, ensuring mares in foal have access to rich, healthy grass and space to move. Nutrition, routine checks, and the peace of the Hampshire countryside all come together to support each pregnancy from day one.

Mares & foals

From conception to foaling, mares at Norman Court are given the kind of attention you’d expect from people who love what they do. Stud secretary Janet Evans and her husband Keith have spent decades caring for broodmares, and it shows in every quiet morning feed, every watchful eye during late-night foal checks, and every gentle word of encouragement in the foaling box.

The birthing process is always handled with great care and patience. No detail is overlooked. The team ensures the mare is supported, comfortable, and closely monitored throughout labour, and once the foal is born, everything slows down. It’s never just a job — it’s a moment of pride, wonder, and pure heart. The foal’s first moments are calm and uninterrupted, with the team giving both mother and baby space to bond, rest, and adjust.

After birth, foals are handled gently and consistently, encouraging trust and confidence from the very start. Whether it’s rugging up on a cold morning, leading practice in the spring sunshine, or just a quiet check-in at dusk, the love and care given to these mares and foals is the very foundation of everything Norman Court Stud stands for.

Resting race horses

Not every horse at the stud is here to breed — some are simply here to rest. Retired or off-season racehorses receive the same level of care and attention as the youngstock and broodmares. Whether they’re just stepping away from training for a break, or winding down after their racing career, the team ensures they feel safe, respected, and seen.

It’s not unusual to find the likes of Miss Stormy Night or Juniper Berries snoozing peacefully in the fields — two much-loved fillies featured recently on the stud’s TikTok, posted by Marie. Those small everyday moments, shared with a smile and a smartphone, give followers a glimpse into the quieter side of life at Norman Court.

Every horse has a name, a story, and a place here. With open fields, good company, and a team that truly loves them, these horses get the chance to just be horses again — relaxed, unhurried, and surrounded by care.
